DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

 Additional Guidelines for International Graduate Program

Students are required to seek out an appropriate advisor after registration and file theGraduate Advisors Application Formwith the department office as soon as possible.

Required credits

  1. Minimum required credits for graduation: 36 
  2. Required courses (including 6 credits for master thesis): 15 credits. Optional courses: 21 credits. Maximum of 6 credits for interdepartmental courses with advisor’s and course instructor’s approval.
  3. For optional courses, students may enroll in our courses and graduate courses offered by the Institute of Architecture and Institute of Urban Planning in the College of Design.

Thesis Proposal Presentation and Graduate Student Degree Exam Application

  1. Thesis proposal presentation:

At the end of May or November, students should apply with their advisors with and complete the Master Thesis Proposal Presentation Application Form and master thesis proposal. The manner of presentation will be determined by the advisors (either review or oral defense is accepted). The Master Thesis Proposal Presentation Application Form  signed by the advisors should be filed with the Department Office by the end of the semester.

  1. Application for degree examination:
  2. 1 year or more after completion of master thesis proposal presentation.
  3. Completed required credits for graduation with regard to related requirements with a pass score in both academic studies and conduct.
  4. Evidence of an accepted or published paper with the ISBN or ISSN printed on the back cover. If the full paper is accepted but not published, please present related documents for verification (only papers with you as the first author or second author, or co-author with your advisor are acceptable; all papers should be referred in an open review system and published in conference proceedings, international conference proceedings, international conference journals, or journals with ISBNs).
  5. Applicants should have the following documents ready and signed by their advisors before submitting them to the Department Office.
  6. Deadline: From the day of completion of registration to November 30 in the first semester. From the day of completion of registration to May 30 in the second semester.

  1. Time: To be decided by your advisor (in November or December in the first semester and in May or June in the second semester).
  2. The presentation of thesis should be announced one week prior to oral defense Degree Examination - Format of announcement/學位考試-公告格式.
  3. Degree Examination- Review Forms/學位考試-評分表 Each examiner will have a score sheet. They should be completed with examiners’ signatures before submitting them to the Department Office.
  4. The committee members will be appointed by the Department Office with authorization. Appointment certificates will be sent by the office.
  5. Verification letter from the master degree examination committee/學位論文口試委員會審定書-碩士 Please have each committee member sign two copies of the letters, which should be attached to the thesis.
  6. The examiners’ fees and transportations fees will be cleared in accordance with the official standard. The examinee is suggested to pay in advance and request payment with the Examination Fees Application Form/口試費印領清冊.
  7. After completing the degree examination, the student should turn in the Degree Examination Scores Form/學位考試成績表Degree Examination Review Forms/學位考試-評分表and Regulation for Standard Thesis Writing Qualification Certificate/論文撰寫規範合格證明書. If it is necessary to revise the contents of the thesis or there are any suggestions for revision, the advisor should sign the forms after the completion of revision.
  8. Guidelines for thesis’s final draft and leaving school (please consult the Office of Academic Affairs and the Office of International Affairs)
  9. Four volumes of the thesis’s final draft (two hardbound and two in paperback) and two CD-ROMs of the thesis full text should be handed in. Please consult Thesis writing manual/學位論文撰寫規範書 for the layout and format of the thesis. Review will be made by the Office of Academic Affairs.
  10. The deadline for turning in the thesis’s final draft (the deadline of leaving school) will be January 31 in the first semester and July 31 in the second semester. If the final draft is turned in before the deadline, the student will be regarded as having graduated in the same semester. If there is any delay and the student has not exceeded the maximum duration of study, the student should register for the next semester. If the student does not turn in the thesis before the maximum duration of study has elapsed, the student will be failed.
